I first thought of CPC almost 3 years ago. I got my start as a blogger/vlogger almost 5 years ago dedicated to different methods of temporary hair coloring. I had tried and used almost every/any kind of temporary hair color from sprays, to gels, to mousses, and chalks and was never really happy with the toxic smells, and crunchy hair it left and the extreme color transfer. When I went natural, I vowed to never use any harsh chemicals in my hair again and started to feel like all these temporary color methods I was using was starting to equal harsh chemicals. Upon looking for an alternative, I came to figure out that eye shadow wasn’t much different than hair chalk. I figured if eye shadow was safe to use on your eyelids, it had to be safe in your hair. The colors of hair chalk being so limited, I not only began to use eye shadow in my hair I also began calling it “Hair Shadowing”. As a result, I got the name “The Queen Of Hair Shadowing”. Soon I began to run out of eye shadow colors to use and longed for more colors to try. This led me to start experimenting with my very own recipe of hair shadows. I knew I wanted my brand to have lots of color choices, be non-toxic with a very pleasant smell, and most importantly not change the texture of the hair when its applied.
2. What did you do for work before you started Crown Paint Colors?
Pre-kindergarden teacher for 15 years.
3. What are the benefits of using a temporary hair color instead of a permanent dye?
Hair health and versatility. My brand allows you to try lots of different “unconventional” and “normal” hair colors with absolutely no commitment or harm to your hair. With permanent dye it’s just that…permanent! It would put a lot of stress on your hair to dye it and then decide you no longer wanted that color. However, with CPC you can simply just wash it out!
4. Your products are vegan and cruelty free. Why is this important to you?
It’s important to me because I love my cat and dog and animals in general. Also, being a retired teacher I wanted to create something very kid friendly and safe to use at any age.
5. Your products aren’t just for hair. It can be used on eyebrows and in men’s beards. It’s even safe for kids! Why was it important to make your product so user friendly?
I just wanted to create a product that anyone at any age could have fun with and enjoy. Making it user friendly on any hair has a lot to do with me always looking to do something different; like two different color eyebrows for example and being inspired by others who think the same. Working around kids for so many years I was also inspired by their stories of not being able to wait to grow up so they could have purple hair. I wanted my brand to not only be safe for them, but something their parents wouldn’t mind buying and using themselves.
6. Crown Paint has Brand Ambassadors. What does this job entail and why did you decided to have them? Also, are you looking to recruit more ambassadors?
Yes! I am always looking for CPC Brand Ambassadors. I look at them as part of my “Tribe”; a colorful creative individual not afraid to be themselves. The job is basically to both use and promote CPC. If anyone is interested in becoming a CPC Ambassador email [email protected] with CPC Ambassador in the subject line. Send a recent clear photo of yourself, age, and state with a brief sentence about why you would like to be an Ambassador.
7. You’ve been featured in Allure, Marie Claire, Sheen Magazine, Yahoo Style and more. How does it feel to reach this level of success?
It feels surreal. I am still humbled by it all honestly because I feel as if this is only the beginning for me. Its funny how something that was once a “hobby” or “side job” could turn into so much more. I had once gotten very discouraged being a blogger/vlogger because I started to feel like I was nothing more than a commercial for other brands and I felt as if my originality was slowly slipping away. Developing my own brand was like taking my originality back and sharing it with the world. The great response I have gotten toward CPC just further confirms it’s always better to be yourself!! Do you boo lol
8. What are the most common responses you’ve gotten from new customers after using your product?
I have gotten more than a few thank you’s for creating my product. They send me pictures and tell me how much they not only love the colors, but how their hair doesn’t feel any different. Also, lots of parents say thank you for creating something that their children can enjoy.
9. Why did you decide to name your company Crown Paint Colors? Is there a story there?
It came to me in a dream. I was holding my product in my hand and when I read the top it said Crown Paint Colors. I put the product in my purse and woke up. Up till that point I had actually had another name in mind, but after the dream I felt like it was written because “Crown Paint Colors” was exactly what my product is.
10. Where do you see Crown Paint Colors in 5 years?
Shipping worldwide, wholesale availability, at least 2 storefronts, New CPC Temporary hair coloring products, accessories, and merchandise!
