Who I Am

Hi, I’m Malissa Martin, but most people know me as Malissa The Writer — because writing isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am.

I’ve spent more than 15 years crafting stories for magazines and newspapers across Metro Detroit, telling the stories of people who are living, thriving, and leaving their mark on the world. Along the way, I’ve also taught English for over a decade at the college level and six years in high school — helping students find their voice and confidence through the power of words.

Writing has taken me from newsroom deadlines to classroom lessons, from self-publishing my own book to now writing screenplays that bring characters and emotions to life on screen. Every story I tell is rooted in truth, connection, and the beauty of being human.

• Legacy Work: Through my business Lasting Legacy, LLC, I help families document their stories and preserve what matters most.
• Teaching: I still love helping students and writers sharpen their craft and express themselves clearly and confidently.
